Creative Web Design

Creative Web Design, published by Springer Publishing (in Germany and in the USA)

Books as designed experiences, not just containers for information.

This book covered the full spectrum of early professional web design—from HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to image optimization and production workflows. It also featured interviews with leading designers of the time, including Clement Mok and Mark Crumpacker, who helped establish Information Architecture as a core discipline in the web design community.

For more than a decade, writing books was a central part of my professional work. While my focus later shifted toward consulting and system-level UX design, authorship has always remained a key part of how I structure, formalize, and share knowledge. This section provides an overview of both my past publications and the books I am currently planning—building on decades of experience in design, UX, and digital systems.

PLANNED BOOKS

UI/UX Design

Iconography

Icon libraries such as Font Awesome or Material Design Icons are widely used, yet many teams struggle when creating their own icon systems. This book focuses on designing custom icon sets, defining clear semantics, and avoiding common structural and conceptual mistakes.

It is intended for designers who want to build consistent, scalable iconography for products and design systems.

UX/UI Design

Design Systems

Most organizations rely on existing design systems rather than building their own. This book explores how to evaluate popular systems, adapt them to brand and product needs, and implement theming strategies effectively.

In addition, it covers how to build a custom design system from scratch, using atomic design principles and BEM (Block–Element–Modifier) as structural foundations.

Information Architecture

Structure & Meaning

Information Architecture was one of the first foundational concepts in web design—and remains one of the most misunderstood. Despite its impact on usability, development speed, and product clarity, many teams still struggle to apply it correctly.

Drawing from both historical context and modern UX practice, this book explains how Information Architecture should be approached today and how it can significantly accelerate design and development processes.

UX/UI Design

Integrating UX into Development

Many organizations still fail to integrate UX/UI effectively into their development workflows. As a result, they miss much of its potential impact.

This book provides a clear, practical blueprint for integrating UX/UI into product teams—covering roles, processes, responsibilities, and collaboration models that enable efficient and sustainable workflows.

Some of my past books

From Desktop Publishing to Web Design, I was one of Germany’s most recognized and successful authors in the field for over a decade. At the peak of my publishing career, three of my titles ranked simultaneously in the Top Ten sales charts, as reported by PAGE.

My book Web Design mit Photoshop became my most successful publication. I translated it into English myself, after which it was published internationally by Peachpit Press and Adobe Press. The book was subsequently translated into multiple languages and sold worldwide.

At that time, I was internationally regarded as one of the three most prominent authors in the field, alongside Lynda Weinman and David Siegel.

Flipbook Presentation

A curated visual overview of selected publications, covering topics from Illustrator and Photoshop to early Web Design and Information Architecture.

These books reflect a phase in which Desktop Publishing and Web Design were undergoing fundamental change—and where clear structure, tooling knowledge, and conceptual thinking were essential for professionals entering the field.
