Design System & Organisation

My work is shaped by the evolution of digital products—from early interactive systems to complex, scalable platforms. I have been involved in digital design since the early days of the web and have continuously worked at the intersection of UX, UI, technology, and process.

What drives my work today is not visual design alone, but the question of how digital products can be structured in a way that makes them understandable, maintainable, and scalable—for users, designers, developers, and organizations alike.

UX & UI Design and Web Design

User Experience and User Interface design have evolved significantly over the past decades. While early discussions focused heavily on usability rules and heuristics, my approach today is grounded in system thinking, clear structures, and well-defined processes.

With more than 25 years of professional experience in interface design—and over 30 years including early interactive systems and applications—I focus on designing UX foundations that scale beyond individual screens or features.

Poorly structured UX/UI processes cost companies time, money, and momentum. My work is aimed at reducing friction, improving collaboration, and creating clarity throughout the product lifecycle.

How I work

Requirement Capturing

Based on the product vision and user stories, I start with a structured requirement capturing phase. This includes collecting and analyzing prior art such as competitor products, existing solutions, and previous versions of the software.

The goal is not to copy solutions, but to understand established patterns, constraints, and expectations before defining new approaches.

Creating User Profiles and Personas

Defining who uses a product is essential. I work with user profiles and lightweight personas that focus on behavior, goals, and context rather than overly detailed fictional biographies.

This pragmatic approach ensures alignment across teams while avoiding unnecessary overhead.

User Interviews

Direct interviews with users and stakeholders are ideal, but not always feasible due to time or budget constraints. In such cases, I complement qualitative insights with surveys and structured questionnaires.

Especially for websites and eCommerce platforms, this approach provides valuable data to validate assumptions and optimize the user experience.

User & Customer Journeys

User (and customer) journeys translate goals into concrete steps and screens. I document these journeys to make processes visible and discussable.

In recent years, I increasingly use Business Process Modeling and Notation (BPMN) to map user actions, system behavior, and screen transitions in a structured and unambiguous way.

Information Architecture

Information Architecture is one of the most impactful disciplines in UX design. It defines how content, functionality, and language are structured so that users can navigate and understand a product intuitively.

A well-defined information architecture benefits not only users, but also developers and documentation teams by reducing rework and ambiguity.

UX Design & Wireframing

Depending on complexity, I create wireframes and interaction concepts to validate structure and flow early. This often works best as a collaborative process with product owners and developers.

From these inputs, I build interactive UX prototypes to gather feedback and validate assumptions before visual design begins.

UI Design & Design Systems

Visual design is a consequence of structure and interaction. Once UX decisions are validated, I translate them into UI designs and design systems.

I work with existing systems when appropriate, and design custom systems when needed—always with scalability, theming, and implementation in mind. My focus lies on consistency, semantics, and clear system rules rather than isolated components.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

I support quality assurance by reviewing implementations against UX concepts and specifications. User journeys serve as a shared reference for testing functional completeness.

Additionally, the structured UX artifacts created during the process provide a solid foundation for user documentation and manuals.

Tools & Methods

Tools are secondary to methodology. I select tools based on project needs, team setup, and collaboration requirements. For most UX/UI and system design work, I currently rely on Figma and Axure, complemented by additional modeling, documentation, and analysis tools as needed.

Web Application & Website Development

In previous roles, I was responsible for building and leading digital teams and developing complex websites and web applications. These included content-driven platforms, internal systems, and eCommerce-related tools.

My development background enables me to design UX concepts that align with technical realities and development workflows.

Online Marketing & eCommerce

I have long-standing experience in eCommerce and digital marketing and understand how UX decisions directly impact conversion, engagement, and campaign performance.
Currently, I am working on new approaches to campaign management that bridge UX, data, and automation.
